Demolition of the famous under-construction Dubai Pearl has started in Dubai – residents of nearby areas even mistook the “underground tremors” associated with it for an earthquake. The tremors were felt in the areas of Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City.
The unfinished Dubai Pearl project has been gracing the entrance to The Palm Jumeirah for years. The initial plans included four towers with 1,490 apartments, seven five-star hotels, more than 60 restaurants and a 1,600-seat theater.
Construction, which began in 2002, was frozen in 2009 due to a lack of investors. Now footage of the demolition of the so-called “city within a city” has appeared on social media.
Earlier, the company Moon World Resorts Inc. published renderings showing that the largest tourist project Moon Dubai in the form of the moon could appear on the site of Dubai Pearl.
According to the idea, Moon Dubai will be an entire city with a full range of facilities: from a spa, a nightclub and a banquet hall for events, to luxury residences, “moon shuttles” and educational facilities for astronauts from around the world.
The structure itself will resemble the moon, and the “lunar surface” will be surrounded by a “lunar colony”. The resort will be designed to host 2.5 million guests wishing to learn more about the field of space tourism. The building will have a height of 224 meters, it is planned to be erected in two 48 months.
Authors of the project expect that Moon Dubai will be able to serve 10 million tourists and guests per year. Thanks to it Dubai may strengthen its position as a center of space tourism on the world stage. Later, the company reported that it is also considering Abu Dhabi for construction.
